Bopath Ella Unlike the waterfalls mentioned ahead, there are waterfalls which are located near the capital city of Colombo too. Measuring at 98 feet in height, Bopath Ella is a premiere waterfall situated in the Rathnapura District and traveling 3km along the Devipahala Road in Agalwatte, one may reach this magnificent fall. Measuring at 100 feet this waterfall flows in the shape of a sacred Bo leaf which is the main reason for its name. Nourished by the Kurugana River, this waterfall supports the relating plant and animal life in a great deal. There is a variety of orchids found in this area and a number of trees that support animals around it such as the wild boar and many kinds of reptiles. Furthermore, it has become the home for numerous kinds of fish that are endemic to the country such as the Bulathhapaya or the Black Ruby Barb. According to folklore surrounding Bopath Ella, a women who was pregnant before marriage to her lover has leaped off this rock into the fall and killed herself. Villagers exclaim that her spirit haunts the fall at night with the resemblance of a blue light.
Dunhinda, is yet another natural resource which holds the respect of providing visitors with memorable experiences. It is also considered to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka. Dunhinda falls is located in the misty region of Badulla in the Uva Province and nourished by the Badulu Oya. This waterfall gets its name with the smoky attire it wears at its bottom or foot. It is also another fall which takes courage to get near.
It measures at 210 feet high and is wide apart at full strength. Visitors should take a muddy pathway if they have intensions of enjoying the scenic beauty of this fall. Tourists are encouraged with traditional drinks on their way to the fall which is approximately 2km. On their way they are greeted further by Kuda Duhinda Falls which is another important component of the environmental balance within
the area.
